Frequently Asked Questions
Who are we hiring?
AMWPhotos is a photojournalistic wedding photography team made up of two Boston based photographers: Ariel Mandeville and Matthew Wynne. To find out more about us click here. Currently all but one of our packages have Matt and I documenting your wedding day as a team. Together we provide fun, artistic and unobtrusive coverage and deliver to you colorful and emotionally rich photographs of your special day.
What is your approach?
I think we would best be described as artistic photojournalists. Our goal for your wedding is to capture the day as it unfolds in its candid and completely natural way. We want our photographs to be a reflection of who you are as a couple. With that said we are artists, being hired for our unique eye and some of our best images have come from being created rather than captured. The goal when we create an image is to make it look as seamless and natural as possible. Through out our time with you on your wedding day something is bound to catch our eye: the soft light coming through the window or the unique architecture of a room... Time allows we will run with the idea until we are 100% happy with resulting photo. A big concern for couples is formals and the amount of time it will take. When it comes to formals Matt and I work together efficiently to create fun, creative and spontaneous portraits. We’ll work with you to create a time frame for formals that fits easily into the rest of your day. The biggest thing we stress is that we want you to be able to relax and enjoy every second of your wedding day.
What kind of equipment do you use?
Matt and I use all top of the line Nikon equipment to document your wedding day.
Do you carry backup equipment?
We do. Between us we have five camera bodies along with a full selection of varying focal length lenses. In addition we carry plenty of flashes, batteries and lots of spare memory.
What is the advantage to hiring you and Matt as a team?
I think most people realize immediately the advantage of having two photographers over just one… two angles, a different perspective etc… how about the advantage to hiring a team over a photographer who hires a second shooter? Matt and I not only run a business together; we also live together and are raising a family together. We know how the other works and what each other’s strengths and weaknesses are. We’re used to working together and almost intuitively know where the other is throughout your wedding day. Our styles blend seamlessly together so that we can give you images that best tell the story of your day: from all the big moments (the first kiss or the first time a groom sees’ his bride-to-be) to all the little ones (dad wiping a tear from his daughters face right before she walks down the aisle). Matt and I love our job and we love every wedding we shoot together!
Besides the day of… What goes into photography for my wedding?
Many clients and even newer photographers have a notion that a wedding or event photographer travels somewhere for the day, photographs, delivers the images to a client and is done. The reality is that there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes before we deliver that final product to the client. Here are some of the examples of the steps that we take to ensure that our business is offering the best service and product possible to our clients.
We spend weeks, months and sometimes over a year meeting and building relationships with our couples. From the first consultation until your wedding day we stay in touch with the couple, going over details for the day and as it gets closer… making sure details haven’t changed.
A few months before your wedding we meet and photograph the engagement session.
The night before your wedding we take all of our gear out so that we can charge batteries, sync cameras, format memory cards and test to make sure all our gear is functioning properly.
We verify directions, weather and make a game plan.
The day of we arrive 45 minutes to an hour earlier than the contracted start time.
We shoot throughout the day, arrive home that night sometimes very late and the first thing we do is to download all our memory cards. We don’t go to bed until your images are backed up onto one of our hard drives.
The next day we archive all the photographs this includes renaming, key wording, rating and sorting. After this is complete we begin processing your images. This whole process can take anywhere between 15 and 50 hours.
Within a week we upload a slide show to our web site for the couple, family and friends. This slide show consists of approximately 100 or so of our absolute favorite images and set to music.
Approximately 30 days later all of your images are placed in an online gallery for viewing and purchasing prints.
We then spend between 3-6 hours custom designing your album.
Followed by fulfilling any print or additional album orders
